Manufacturer's description

Mobilgard ADL 40 is the SAE 40 grade of the Mobilgard ADL Series, designed for high Brake Mean Effective Pressure (BMEP) medium- and high-speed diesel engines operating on distillate fuels. Its balanced formulation combats lacquer formation and deposits in severe service applications, and superior load-carrying properties minimise piston ring and liner wear while also suiting marine gearing applications. The series is intended for high-BMEP and severe duty engines where fuel and service conditions demand greater detergency/dispersancy and liner lacquer control than most diesel engine lubricants offer. It has demonstrated superior performance in engines from MAN Energy Solutions (Everllence) Augsburg, Caterpillar (3600 and C280 Series), Deutz and Wärtsilä, delivering dramatically reduced oil consumption, significantly reduced liner lacquering and extended periods between overhauls in extensive field testing, alongside excellent water separation and rust/corrosion resistance. Mobilgard ADL 40 has a kinematic viscosity of 14.7 mm²/s at 100 °C and 132 mm²/s at 40 °C, a viscosity index of 112, a pour point of -21 °C, a TBN of 12 mgKOH/g and sulfated ash of 1.4%. This grade is approved by Anglo Belgian Corporation (12V-DZ and 16V-DZ engines in dual-fuel gas mode and on distillate fuel up to 1.5% sulphur, and the D36 engine range on distillate fuel up to 1.5% sulphur), Caterpillar/MaK (four-stroke medium-speed diesel engines, distillate operation), Everllence (28/33D engines and four-stroke medium-speed engines for alternating distillate/LNG operation), GE Transportation (GE16V250), MTU (Oil Category 2), Wärtsilä (four-stroke medium-speed engines for distillate and dual-fuel operation) and ZF (TE-ML 04B), and is recommended for applications requiring ACEA E2, API CF, API SF and MAN 270.

Applications

  • Mobilgard ADL Series lubricants are intended for high-BMEP engines and severe-duty engine applications, where the fuel and service conditions require a greater level of detergency/dispersancy and liner-lacquer control than most diesel engine lubricants offer.

Performance & benefits

  • Mobilgard ADL Series oils have demonstrated superior performance in the latest model diesel engines, including engines from MAN Energy Solutions Augsburg, Caterpillar (3600 and C280 Series), Deutz and Wärtsilä.
  • In extensive field testing on these engines, Mobilgard ADL Series oils corrected many problems normally associated with severe-service engines operating on lower-quality fuels.
  • Results included dramatically reduced oil consumption, significantly reduced liner lacquering and extended periods between overhauls.
  • These advanced diesel lubricants offer excellent water separation and rust/corrosion resistance.
  • Superior wear protection: extends the life of critical wear surfaces.
  • Enhanced detergency/dispersancy capability: reduces deposits, especially in the ring-belt area, extending cylinder overhauls and reducing oil consumption.
  • Stay-in-grade shear stability: reduces oil consumption and improves bearing protection.
  • High TBN levels: prevents corrosive wear from higher-sulphur fuels.
  • Broad range of engine applications: a single severe-service engine lubricant for all shipboard applications.
