Complete documentation

Manufacturer's description

Mobil Pegasus 1005 is a high-performance gas engine oil designed to provide today's high-output, low-emission four-cycle gas engines with the highest levels of protection while maintaining superior performance in earlier model engines. Using high-quality base stocks and advanced additive technology, it delivers exceptional oxidation stability, nitration resistance and thermal stability, with a formulation balanced for outstanding anti-wear protection of heavily loaded valve train components, pistons, liners, bearings and gear trains, while maintaining compatibility with catalytic converter materials. Its detergent-dispersant system controls carbon and varnish deposit formation to minimize oil consumption and keep engines clean during extended drain intervals. Mobil Pegasus 1005 (SAE 40) is designed for use in Caterpillar, MWM GmbH (formerly Deutz Power Systems), Jenbacher, Rolls-Royce-Bergen, Wartsila, Waukesha and other turbocharged or naturally aspirated, medium-to-high-speed four-cycle engines requiring a low-ash oil, in lean-burn and stoichiometric designs under high load and temperature. It suits high-speed cogeneration engines, natural gas engines fitted with catalytic converters, alternate fuels with low sulfur or chlorine, and field gathering operations using sour gas with H2S content below 0.1% (1000 ppm). The product holds an extensive list of OEM approvals, including Caterpillar Energy Solutions TR 2105 (CG132, CG170, CG260), Caterpillar/MaK 4-Stroke Medium Speed Engines, INNIO Jenbacher TI 1000-1109 (Type 2, 3, 4B and 6E), INNIO Waukesha Engine 220GL and cogeneration applications, MAN M 3271-2, MTU Gas Engines S4000 and Series 4000, MWM TR 0199-99-2105, Perkins Gas Engine Oil, and multiple Wartsila and Bergen Engines (former Rolls-Royce Bergen) gas engine series, and meets API CF requirements.

Applications

  • Caterpillar, MWM GmbH (formerly Deutz Power Systems), Jenbacher, Rolls-Royce–Bergen, Wärtsilä, Waukesha and other turbocharged, naturally aspirated, medium- to high-speed four-stroke engines requiring a low-ash oil.
  • Lean-burn and stoichiometric four-stroke engines operating under high-load, high-temperature conditions.
  • High-speed four-stroke gas engines used in cogeneration applications.
  • Natural-gas-fuelled engines equipped with catalytic converters.
  • Applications using alternative fuels containing low levels of sulphur or chlorine.
  • Field gathering operations where sour gas, with H2S content below 0.1% (1,000 ppm), may be used as fuel.

Performance & benefits

  • Extended oil life improves the oil-drain interval, reducing the number of oil changes and oil purchases, creating less waste oil and labour, and helping lower operating costs while increasing engine availability.
  • Increased engine availability enables higher productivity.
  • Keep-clean performance helps control deposits in the combustion chamber, on pistons and in heat exchangers, maximising engine efficiency, reliability and heat production.
  • Low oil volatility helps minimise engine and exhaust-system deposits, helping extend catalytic-converter life and the interval between heat-exchanger cleanings.
  • Low oil consumption helps reduce make-up oil additions and lubricant purchases.
  • Exceptional wear protection helps control wear on critical engine components, maximising engine reliability and performance.
