Mobilgard M440 is a high performance 40 BN engine oil developed specifically for medium-speed engines, recommended for use on deep-sea vessels and coastal and river ships operating on heavy fuel oil (HFO). It provides excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance, outstanding residual fuel compatibility, good thermal stability, low volatility, high load-carrying properties and outstanding corrosion protection, its high alkalinity reserves neutralising the strong acids resulting from high sulphur fuels and reducing corrosion, maintenance and repair costs. Mobilgard M440 suits most medium-speed trunk piston engine applications, including main propulsion and auxiliary engines on deep-sea vessels, main propulsion engines on coastal and river ships, and stationary power plants, and was developed using ExxonMobil's patented DAC (Detecting Asphaltene Contamination) Test. It is especially beneficial in engines with low crankcase oil consumption or low cylinder liner temperatures, where its high alkalinity reserve helps prevent oil degradation and ring, cylinder and bearing corrosion. The oil offers outstanding thermal and oxidation stability, excellent BN retention and resistance to viscosity increase, helping maximise component life and cleaning intervals while minimising filter changes and purifier maintenance. It also helps protect piston under-crowns from deposits caused by raw fuel dilution, extends the life of critical wear surfaces through outstanding anti-wear properties, and minimises oil consumption thanks to low-volatility base stocks.
