Mobilgard 412 is an SAE 40 high-performance diesel engine oil from the Mobilgard 12 Series, developed for trunk piston engines operating on low-sulphur distillate fuels in marine and industrial applications. It is formulated for excellent resistance to oxidation and viscosity increase over long service periods, with superior water-separating properties and excellent corrosion protection. The oil serves as a cylinder and bearing lubricant in marine and industrial diesel engines running on distillate fuels or light fuel blends, and is particularly effective in high-speed engines in fishing fleets, new severe-service engines and many medium-speed engines; it may also be used as a crankcase lubricant in large crosshead diesel engines running on high-sulphur fuels. Benefits include excellent thermal and oxidation stability that extends periods between inspections and overhauls, improved anti-wear properties that reduce ring and liner wear, and excellent TBN reserve and detergency/dispersancy for cleaner, longer-lasting engines. Mobilgard 412 holds approvals from Caterpillar/MaK for 4-stroke medium-speed diesel engines (distillate operation), Everllence (formerly MAN Energy Solutions) for 4-stroke medium-speed engines on distillate and on alternating distillate/LNG operation, and Wärtsilä for 4-stroke medium-speed engines on distillate and dual-fuel operation, and is of API CF quality level. Typical properties include a viscosity of 14.5 mm²/s at 100°C and 142 mm²/s at 40°C, a viscosity index of 100, TBN of 15 mgKOH/g, sulfated ash of 2.1 wt% and a pour point of -9°C.
