Manufacturer's description

Mobil SHC™ Gear Series is a line of exceptional-performance synthetic industrial gear oils designed to protect gears and bearings, extend oil life even under extreme conditions, and enable problem-free equipment operation. Formulated from synthetic base fluids with excellent oxidation, thermal and low-temperature properties, the high viscosity index of these oils minimizes viscosity change across the operating temperature range, while an advanced proprietary additive system provides excellent protection against scuffing and a high level of resistance to micropitting fatigue. The series offers outstanding rust and corrosion protection versus conventional gear oils, even with seawater contamination, shows no tendency to plug fine filters when wet, and provides excellent compatibility with ferrous and non-ferrous metals, elastomers and mineral-based gear oils, easing changeover. Low-traction synthetic base stocks reduce fluid friction and operating temperature, helping improve gear efficiency, while strong EP properties protect under shock loading. Mobil SHC Gear Series is recommended for enclosed industrial gear drives, including steel-on-steel spur, helical and bevel gears, particularly heavily loaded gearboxes with surface-hardened tooth metallurgies subject to micropitting, and applications with extreme temperatures or severe corrosion — such as gearboxes in the paper, steel, oil, textile, lumber and cement industries, and plastic extruder gearboxes. Mobil SHC Gear 150 is the ISO VG 150 grade, with a kinematic viscosity of 150 mm²/s at 40 °C and 22.2 mm²/s at 100 °C, a viscosity index of 176 and a pour point of -54 °C. It holds Flender and SEW-Eurodrive approvals and is approved to GE's D50E35 off-highway wheel gearbox specification, as well as ZF TE-ML 04H. It meets AGMA 9005-F16, DIN 51517-3 and ISO 12925-1 L-CKD and L-CTPR requirements.

Applications

  • Synthetic industrial gear oils designed to provide optimum equipment protection and oil life, even under extreme conditions.
  • Especially formulated to resist micropitting of modern, case-hardened gearing, and can operate in both high- and low-temperature environments.
  • Modern, highly loaded gearboxes used in the paper, steel, oil, textile, lumber and cement industries where gear protection and optimum oil life are required.
  • Plastic extruder gearboxes.
  • ISO VG 150, 220, 320, 460 and 680 grades are approved under General Electric's (GE) gear oil specification D50E35 for off-highway vehicle motorized wheel gearbox applications.
  • Before changing a system to Mobil SHC Gear Series, it should be thoroughly cleaned out and flushed, as admixture with mineral oil based products may reduce performance.

Performance & benefits

  • Superb protection from micropitting fatigue wear, as well as high resistance to traditional scuffing wear, under extreme conditions of load, speed and temperature.
  • Helps reduce unplanned downtime and maintenance — especially critical for gearboxes that are difficult to access.
  • Exceptional oil life and deposit control, with resistance to thermal/oxidative and chemical degradation.
  • High viscosity grades are particularly effective in low-speed, high-load, high-temperature situations.
  • Give excellent gear and bearing protection, longer oil life and excellent all-round service compared with conventional products.
  • Exceptional low-temperature fluidity, unmatched by conventional mineral gear oils — a key benefit for remote, low-ambient-temperature applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to resist micropitting wear, which can occur in highly loaded, case-hardened gearing.
