Manufacturer's description

Mobil Pyrotec HFD-U 68 is a fire-resistant hydraulic fluid (ISO VG 68) engineered to meet the requirements of DIN EN ISO 12922. Built on a fully synthetic ester base oil with environmentally friendly additives, it is readily biodegradable in accordance with DIN ISO 15380, offering high versatility for lubricating a broad range of industrial and off-highway equipment. Mobil Pyrotec HFD-U 68 has a density of 928 kg/m³ at 15 °C, a kinematic viscosity of 71 mm²/s at 40 °C and 12.5 mm²/s at 100 °C, a viscosity index of 190 and a pour point of -33 °C. It is recommended for areas with increased fire risk — such as steel mills, metallurgical plants, and underground mining — as well as environmentally sensitive locations. Typical applications include hydraulic and oil circulation systems in continuous casters, blast furnaces, reheating furnaces, underground and open-pit mining, tunnelling, forestry equipment and construction equipment. The grade offers excellent thermal and oxidation stability that supports system cleanliness, deposit reduction and long oil and filter life, along with outstanding anti-corrosion and anti-wear properties and a wide low-temperature operating range. The series meets EU Ecolabel and Blue Angel environmental requirements.

Applications

  • Areas with increased risk of fire, such as steel mills and metallurgical plants, and mining — especially underground working, which carries a high fire risk.
  • Areas prone to increased environmental risk.
  • Hydraulic and oil-circulation systems operating in conditions subject to fire hazards or in environmentally sensitive areas.
  • Continuous casters.
  • Blast furnaces.
  • Reheating furnaces.
  • Underground and open-pit mining.
  • Tunnelling.
  • Forestry equipment.
  • Construction equipment.

Performance & benefits

  • Excellent thermal and oxidation stability helps reduce maintenance downtime and costs by contributing to system cleanliness and deposit reduction, enabling long oil and filter life.
  • Outstanding anti-corrosion and anti-wear properties protect system components against wear and scuffing, helping give long equipment life.
  • Wide low-temperature characteristics give a broad operating range.
  • Meets the requirements for the EU Ecolabel and Blue Angel certifications.
