Manufacturer's description

Mobil EAL Arctic Series are high-performance, fully synthetic lubricants specifically designed for refrigeration compressors and systems using ozone-friendly synthetic HFC refrigerants, as well as newer HFO refrigerants and HFO/HFC blends with lower Global Warming Potential, including A1 and A2L refrigerants per ASHRAE 34/ISO 817 safety classification. Formulated with proprietary synthesized Polyol Esters (POEs) and a unique additive system, they deliver outstanding lubricity, wear protection, and chemical, thermal and hydrolytic stability, with well-defined viscosity/temperature/pressure relationships and miscibility across a wide range of HFC, HFO and HFO/HFC refrigerants. Mobil EAL Arctic 68 is the ISO VG 68 grade of the series. Its typical kinematic viscosity is 65 mm²/s at 40 °C and 8.3 mm²/s at 100 °C, with a viscosity index of 96, a pour point of -40 °C and a flash point of 256 °C. Like the rest of the series, it is recommended for HVAC, commercial refrigeration (food preservation, transportation) and industrial applications (food processing, freezing), and is used by many major compressor and system builders worldwide. Mobil EAL Arctic oils are hygroscopic and require careful handling to avoid moisture absorption, and must not be used in ammonia (NH3/R-717) systems. Developed in close cooperation with compressor OEMs to meet the stability and compatibility requirements of modern refrigeration applications under the Montreal and Kyoto Protocols and regulations such as the EU F-gas regulation, the series offers very good anti-wear properties for reduced compressor wear, a high viscosity index and wax-free composition for excellent low-temperature fluidity and evaporator efficiency, and a wide viscosity range to match diverse equipment requirements.

Applications

  • Refrigeration systems using HFC, HFO and HFO/HFC-blend refrigerants.
  • A wide range of applications, from domestic/tertiary use (heating, ventilation and air conditioning – HVAC) to commercial applications (food preservation, transport) and industrial applications (food processing, freezing).
  • Not for use in ammonia systems (NH3/R-717).

Performance & benefits

  • Very good anti-wear properties reduce compressor wear, resulting in lower maintenance costs.
  • High viscosity index and wax-free composition give excellent low-temperature fluidity, no waxy deposits and improved evaporator efficiency.
  • A wide viscosity range can meet the specific viscosity requirements of a wide range of equipment and applications.
