Manufacturer's description

Shell Corena S3 R 68 is a premium, top-quality oil intended for the lubrication of rotary vane and screw air compressors. It is an ISO VG 68 grade with a kinematic viscosity of 68 mm²/s at 40 °C and 8.9 mm²/s at 100 °C. It uses an advanced additive system to deliver excellent protection and performance for compressors operating with maintenance intervals of up to 4,000 hours (where approved by the manufacturer).

Applications

  • Rotary vane air compressors and screw compressors
  • Shell Corena S3 R 68 is suitable for single- or two-stage oil-flooded or oil-injected vane air compressors, or for screw compressors. Specifications, approvals and recommendations
  • ISO 6743-3 L-DAHFor the full list of equipment approvals and recommendations, please consult your local Shell Technical Helpdesk. Compatibility and miscibility
  • Compatible with seal materialsShell Corena S3 R oils are compatible with the seal materials normally specified for use with mineral oils.

Performance & benefits

  • Long oil life — reduced maintenance: capable of delivering oil-change intervals of up to 4000 hours (where manufacturers permit this), even when the compressor runs at air discharge temperatures of up to 100°C.
  • Resists carbon-deposit formation in the vane slots of rotary vane compressors and on the rotating components of screw compressors.
  • Resists thermal breakdown and deposit formation, maintaining excellent cleanliness of internal surfaces, particularly of oil/air separators and coalescer systems.
  • The precise maintenance interval depends on the quality of the air supplied, the duty cycle and ambient conditions; an oil-change period below 4000 hours is recommended for hot, humid climates.
  • Exceptional wear protection.
  • Helps ensure effective protection of internal metal surfaces against corrosion and wear, containing a well-designed anti-wear system to extend the life of critical components such as bearings and gears.
  • Maintained system efficiency.
  • Ensures rapid air release without excessive foaming, giving trouble-free operation even under cyclic duty, and has excellent water-separating properties for continuous, efficient compressor operation even in the presence of water.
