Manufacturer's description

The Mobil SHC 500 Series comprises exceptional performance hydraulic oils formulated from synthesised, wax-free hydrocarbon base fluids combined with a carefully engineered, super-stabilised additive system. They are exceptionally high-quality, wide-temperature, shear-stable hydraulic oils with controlled low-temperature pumpability and maximised anti-wear protection for high-pressure vane, piston and gear pumps, with very high viscosity indexes giving excellent performance at both low and high temperatures. The series exhibits outstanding shear stability for extended use in high-pressure, high-temperature operating environments without loss of critical lubrication characteristics, helping deliver long oil and filter life and optimum equipment protection that reduces maintenance and disposal costs. Developed with major OEMs for severe hydraulic systems using high-pressure, high-output pumps, close-clearance servo-valves and high-accuracy numerically controlled (NC) machine tools, the oils suit systems prone to deposit build-up, multi-metal component designs, cold start-up or very high operating temperatures, systems with unavoidable small amounts of water, and applications requiring high load-carrying capability and thin-film corrosion protection. Mobil SHC 526 is the ISO VG 68 grade of the Mobil SHC 500 Series, with a viscosity of 68 mm²/s at 40°C and 11.52 mm²/s at 100°C, a viscosity index of 158, a pour point of -53°C and a flash point of 240°C. The Mobil SHC 500 Series sheet lists Denison HF-0, HF-1 and HF-2 approvals for this grade, as for the other grades of the series (SHC 524, 525 and 526).

Applications

  • Hydraulic systems prone to deposit build-up, such as sophisticated numerically controlled (NC) machines, particularly where close-clearance servo-valves are used.
  • Systems employing multi-metal component designs.
  • High-pressure vane, piston and gear pumps.
  • Systems where cold start-up and/or very high operating temperatures are typical.
  • Where small amounts of water are unavoidable.
  • Systems containing gears and bearings.
  • Systems requiring a high degree of load-carrying capability and anti-wear protection.
  • Applications where thin-oil-film corrosion protection is an asset, such as systems containing moisture.

Performance & benefits

  • Outstanding low- and high-temperature performance provides an extra margin of equipment protection beyond the capabilities of comparable mineral-oil-based products.
  • Excellent oxidation resistance allows extended oil and filter change intervals while keeping systems exceptionally clean and trouble-free.
  • A high level of anti-wear properties and excellent film-strength characteristics give exceptional equipment performance, helping prevent unplanned breakdowns and maximise equipment uptime, with potential improvements in production capacity.
  • Controlled demulsibility lets the oils work well in systems contaminated with small amounts of water, while readily separating out larger amounts of water.
  • The design-specific synthetic base stock and exceptional anti-wear properties give a cleaner system, reduced close-tolerance valve sticking compared with conventional products, improved filterability, reduced component wear, and protection for systems using various metallurgies.
