Manufacturer's description

Mobil SHC™ 624 is the ISO VG 32 grade of the Mobil SHC™ 600 Series, a range of exceptional-performance, fully synthetic gear and bearing oils built on Mobil SHC synthetic base stock technology, with a kinematic viscosity of 6.3 mm²/s at 100 °C. Formulated to protect equipment, extend oil life and enable trouble-free operation, the range delivers balanced performance across a wide temperature range, with excellent low-temperature fluidity and improved air release in the lower-viscosity grades. The oils resist mechanical shear even in heavily loaded gears and high-shear bearings, so viscosity is retained throughout the oil's service life. Thanks to the low traction coefficient inherent to their synthetic base stocks, Mobil SHC 600 Series oils, including Mobil SHC 624, reduce fluid friction in gears and rolling-element bearings, lowering operating temperatures and cutting power consumption — laboratory testing has shown energy-efficiency gains of up to 3.6% versus mineral reference oils in worm-gear applications. The formulation also provides excellent resistance to oxidation and deposit formation, along with strong rust/corrosion protection, demulsibility, foam control, air release and seal compatibility with mineral-oil-lubricated equipment. Typical applications include filled-for-life and remotely located gearboxes, high-ratio worm gears, low-temperature installations such as ski lifts, mixer and roll-neck bearings, plastic calenders, severe centrifuges and railroad AC traction drives. Mobil SHC 624 holds SEW-Eurodrive approval. It meets or exceeds the requirements of AGMA 9005-F16 and ISO L-CKB (ISO 12925-1:2024).

Applications

  • A wide variety of gear and bearing applications where high or low temperatures are encountered, or where operating or bulk-oil temperatures make conventional lubricants give unsatisfactory life, or where improved efficiency is desired — particularly effective where the maintenance costs of component replacement, system cleaning and lubricant changes are high.
  • Filled-for-life gearboxes, especially high-ratio/low-efficiency worm gears.
  • Remotely located gearboxes, where oil change-out is difficult.
  • Low-temperature applications, such as ski lifts, where seasonal oil changes can be avoided.
  • Mixer-roll bearings and roll-neck bearings exposed to high temperatures.
  • Plastic calenders.
  • Severe centrifuge applications, including marine centrifuges.
  • Railroad AC traction drives.
  • Mobil SHC 626 is suitable for oil-flooded rotary screw compressors compressing natural gas, in field gas gathering, CO2 and other process-gas duties.
  • Compatible with most NBR, FKM and other elastomeric seal materials used with mineral oils, though substantial variation between elastomers is possible; consult your equipment supplier, seal manufacturer or local company representative to verify compatibility. Generally compatible with mineral-oil-based products, though admixture may reduce performance — systems should be thoroughly cleaned and flushed before converting.

Performance & benefits

  • Offers the potential for energy-efficiency improvements of up to 3.6% relative to mineral oils, particularly evident in equipment with a high level of mechanical losses, such as high-ratio worm gears.
  • Selected base oils with exceptional thermal/oxidative resistance, combined with a balanced additive system, provide excellent oil life, deposit control and resistance to thermal/oxidative and chemical degradation.
  • Low-temperature fluidity exceeding that of many conventional mineral products is a key benefit for remote, low-ambient-temperature applications.
