- Biodegradable hydraulics
ISO VG 32
Biodegradable hydraulic and control line fluid, OSPAR Yellow category
US EPA Vessel General Permit (VGP)
EPA permit requiring environmentally acceptable lubricants at oil-to-sea interfaces of vessels.
OECD 301B biodegradability above 60 %
OECD test measuring carbon dioxide evolved over 28 days; above 60 % counts as "readily biodegradable".
Biodegradable hydraulic fluid HEES — ISO 15380
Class HEES of ISO 15380: a biodegradable hydraulic fluid on a synthetic ester base.
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Kinematic viscosity @40°CcSt | 33.8 | ASTM D445 |
| Pour point°C | -50 | ASTM D97 |
| Flash point°C | 232 | ASTM D92 |
| Density @15°Ckg/m3 | 913 | ASTM D4052 |

Hydraulic and control line fluid, readily biodegradable, saturated synthetic esters. Shell PANOLIN S4 Hydraulic OS EAL 32 has a zinc-free additive technology, blended with high-performance fully synthetic saturated esters, which provides an excellent blend of lubrication performance and environmental acceptability. Readily biodegradable with a low ecotoxicity, particularly suited for subsea, offshore and marine applications where compliance is required, including US waters. ISO VG 32 grade: kinematic viscosity 33.8 cSt at 40 °C, pour point -50 °C, flash point 232 °C. It is rated OSPAR Yellow and OCNS Group A (with a substitution warning).
