Manufacturer's description

Mobilmet 420 Series are high-performance, multi-purpose straight cutting oils that are chlorine-free, non-staining and non-corrosive. Formulated from high quality base oils and select additives, they deliver effective machining performance across a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous metal operations, and are also suitable as machine tool lubricants and in light-duty hydraulic systems. The oils are light-colored and transparent for clear visibility of the work area, resist foaming even under heavy splashing, and are formulated to prevent oil mist near the machine tool. Their relatively low pour points and high viscosity indexes make them easy to dispense in cold conditions while maintaining adequate film strength in hot-running machine tool bearings. Mobilmet 423 is recommended for machining aluminum, magnesium, copper, brasses and bronzes, as well as steels and cast irons up to about 200 Brinell, including severe cutting of difficult non-ferrous alloys such as silicon-copper, silicon-bronze and copper-nickel. It has a kinematic viscosity of 15 mm²/s at 40 °C, a pour point of -15 °C and a flash point of 182 °C (Cleveland open cup). Key benefits include multi-service capability that reduces cross-contamination and inventory needs, chlorine-free additives that lower environmental impact, control of built-up edge and tool tip wear, and improved surface finish that can reduce or eliminate finish turning or forming before grinding. No formal specification or approval codes are listed on the datasheet.

Applications

  • Mobilmet 420 Series fluids are recommended for a wide range of machining operations on all types of metals.
  • Can be used as multipurpose oils where a common fluid is needed for machine-tool lubrication, and as a hydraulic fluid, subject to proper viscosity selection.
  • Mobilmet 423 and 424 are recommended for machining aluminium, magnesium, copper, brass and bronze, and for steels and cast irons up to about 200 Brinell hardness, including severe cutting of difficult-to-machine non-ferrous alloys such as silicon-copper, silicon-bronze and copper-nickel.
  • They are effective machine-tool lubricants across a wide range of temperature conditions.
  • Mobilmet 426 and 427 are recommended for critical machining of non-ferrous metals and automatic operations on materials up to about 300 Brinell hardness.

Performance & benefits

  • In addition to their machining performance, the Mobilmet 420 Series fluids are multipurpose, helping reduce problems from cross-contamination and improving production while reducing rejects.
  • Formulated with chlorine-free additives, reducing the environmental impact of disposal and spillage.
  • Controls built-up edge and protects the tool tip from wear.
  • Provides improved surface finish, which may eliminate the need for finish turning or forming before grinding.
  • Multi-service capability: eliminates cross-contamination problems and provides further inventory benefits.
  • Light, transparent colour: provides a clear view of the work area at all times.
