Manufacturer's description

Mobilube HD 85W-140 is a high-performance, heavy-duty gear lubricant from the Mobilube HD Series, formulated from high-performance base oils and an advanced additive system for automotive applications including heavy-duty axles and final drives where extreme pressures and shock loading are expected. It is recommended by ExxonMobil for applications requiring API GL-5 service. ExxonMobil recommends the series for heavy-duty axles and final drives, passenger cars, on-highway light and heavy-duty trucks and commercial vehicles, off-highway construction, mining, quarrying and agriculture, and other heavy-duty industrial and automotive applications involving hypoid gears under high-speed/shock-load, high-speed/low-torque, or low-speed/high-torque conditions. Key benefits include exceptional thermal stability and resistance to high-temperature oxidation for extended gear and bearing life with minimal deposits and longer seal life; outstanding protection against low-speed/high-torque wear and high-speed scoring; excellent rust and corrosion protection; effective low-temperature lubrication for improved startability; and compatibility with typical automotive seals and gaskets. Mobilube HD 85W-140 meets or exceeds API GL-5. It is an SAE 85W-140 grade with a viscosity of 27.5 mm²/s at 100°C, a viscosity index of 97, a Brookfield viscosity of 100,000 mPa·s at -12°C, and a shear stability of 27 mm²/s (KRL 20h, CEC L-45-A-99).

Applications

  • Heavy-duty axles and final drives requiring API GL-5 level performance.
  • Passenger cars, on-highway light- and heavy-duty trucks and commercial vehicles.
  • Off-highway industries including construction, mining, quarrying and agriculture.
  • Other heavy-duty industrial and automotive applications involving hypoid gears operating under high-speed/shock-load, high-speed/low-torque and/or low-speed/high-torque conditions.

Performance & benefits

  • Exceptional thermal stability and resistance to high-temperature oxidation: extends gear and bearing life through minimal deposits, and extends seal life.
  • Outstanding protection against low-speed/high-torque wear and high-speed scoring: increases load-carrying capability, reduces maintenance costs and extends equipment life.
  • Excellent rust and corrosion protection: reduced wear and longer component life.
  • Effective low-temperature lubrication: improved startability.
  • Compatible with typical automotive seals and gaskets: minimal leakage and reduced contamination.
