Standards & approvals

  • Official approval

Parker Denison HF-0 — hydraulic fluid, most severe level

Most severe Denison hydraulic fluid level: wear tests on both vane and piston pumps, dry and with water.

  • Official approval

Parker Denison HF-2 — hydraulic fluid

Denison HF-2 level, defined by the vane pump wear test; the base requirement for Denison hydraulic oils.

  • Vickers I-286-S — industrial hydraulic fluids

The Vickers specification for hydraulic fluids in stationary industrial systems, verified by the vane pump wear test.

  • Vickers M-2950-S level — mobile hydraulic fluids

The Vickers requirement for hydraulic fluids in mobile equipment, the counterpart of I-286-S. Both were superseded by Eaton 03-401-2010.

Manufacturer's description

Univis N Series oils are ExxonMobil premium high performance anti-wear hydraulic oils designed to satisfy a wide range of hydraulic equipment requirements. Their high viscosity indexes give excellent low and high temperature properties, making them suitable for equipment subjected to a wide range of start-up and operating temperatures, while good shear stability allows use in high-pressure, high-temperature environments for extended periods. Univis N 46 is the ISO VG 46 grade, with a kinematic viscosity of 46 mm²/s at 40 °C and 8.19 mm²/s at 100 °C, a viscosity index of 152 and a pour point of -48 °C. Formulated with select high-quality base oils and a carefully chosen additive system, it provides very good anti-wear properties, rust and corrosion protection, good demulsibility, oxidation resistance, and good anti-foam and air release performance. It suits industrial, mobile and marine hydraulic systems, gears and bearings needing mild anti-wear characteristics, and applications where moisture is present. Univis N 46 holds DENISON HF-0, HF-1 and HF-2 approvals, is recommended for applications requiring EATON I-286-S and M-2950-S, and meets or exceeds DIN 51524-3:2017-06 and ISO L-HV (ISO 11158:2023). Benefits include less wear and corrosion, longer running periods, lower maintenance costs, and extended oil/filter life while controlling sludge and deposit formation.

Applications

  • Wide variety of industrial, mobile and marine applications.
  • Systems where low start-up and high operating temperatures are typical.
  • Hydraulic systems requiring anti-wear oils.
  • Systems containing gears and bearings where mild anti-wear characteristics are desirable.
  • Systems requiring a high degree of load-carrying capability and anti-wear protection.
  • Applications where moisture is present and good corrosion protection is an asset.
  • Machines employing a wide range of components using various metallurgy in their design.

Performance & benefits

  • Less wear and corrosion, resulting in longer running periods and lower maintenance costs.
  • High viscosity index and good shear stability, maintaining excellent viscosity characteristics for long periods.
  • Low pour points, sustaining good fluidity at low temperatures.
  • High performance and smooth hydraulic operation, from fast air release, very good foam control and good water separability.
  • Exceptional corrosion protection, reducing the negative effects of moisture on system components.
  • Effective oxidation and thermal stability, reducing deposits and improving valve performance.
