Manufacturer's description

Mobil Almo 500 Series lubricants are premium-quality, high-performance oils primarily intended for lubricating pneumatically operated rock drills in underground and surface mining operations. Formulated from high-quality base stocks and additives, they deliver excellent chemical stability and good protection against wear and corrosion, with an optimum balance of adhesiveness and emulsifiability that lets them pick up moisture carried in the air stream, reducing the negative effects of water on wear and corrosion without forming gummy deposits that could cause sluggish valve action. Available in viscosities from 32 to 320 mm²/s at 40°C, Mobil Almo 500 Series oils maintain preferential metal-wetting properties even in the presence of water, sustaining continuous oil films that, combined with high extreme-pressure characteristics, provide excellent lubrication and long equipment life. Their high viscosity index and low pour points ensure good lubrication at the low temperatures caused by air expansion, guarding against icing stoppages, while still providing adequate films on drill parts operating at high temperatures — with extremely low oil-fog generation. Recommended applications include pneumatically operated rock drills in underground and surface mining, drills and jack hammers in highway construction and building operations, rock drills in quarrying, and percussion and rotary air-operated tools in general industrial use, with viscosity grades selectable for year-round use across extreme seasonal temperature variation. Mobil Almo 525 is the ISO VG 46 grade, with a viscosity of 46 mm²/s at 40°C and 7.3 mm²/s at 100°C, a viscosity index of 105, a pour point of -30°C and a flash point of 188°C.

Applications

  • Recommended for use in all pneumatically operated rock drills in both underground and surface mining, as well as in contractor and other industrial applications.
  • Suitable for percussive- and rotary-type tools.
  • The viscosity grades allow selection for year-round use where seasonal ambient temperature variations are extreme.
  • Pneumatically operated rock drills in underground and surface mining operations.
  • Pneumatically operated drills and jack hammers in highway construction and building operations.
  • Rock drills in quarry operations.
  • Percussion and rotary air-operated tools in industrial applications.

Performance & benefits

  • Provides an optimum performance balance which assures long equipment life and minimal maintenance costs.
  • Their excellent wear-protection characteristics and ability to provide adequate lubrication in the presence of water not only reduce wear but also protect against rust and corrosion.
  • Their good chemical stability prevents sludge and deposit formation, reducing the need for frequent maintenance.
  • Desired emulsifiable properties — effective lubrication in the presence of water.
  • High viscosity index — provides good lubrication at both high and low temperatures, reducing component wear.
  • Excellent load-carrying ability and anti-wear protection, very good adhesive characteristics, rust and corrosion protection — prolongs equipment life, reduces maintenance costs, protects metal surfaces from corrosion, provides good lubricant films under all conditions, and increases tool life and performance.
