Environmentally Acceptable Saturated Synthetic Ester Gear and Bearing Fluid. Shell Naturelle S4 Gear Fluid is an advanced synthetic fluid for gearing applications such as thrusters and propulsion drives. Manufactured from fully saturated esters, it is designed to deliver superior load-carrying performance while meeting the requirements for Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EAL) as defined by the US EPA 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP). Shell Naturelle S4 Gear Fluid 100 is the ISO VG 100 grade: about 100 cSt at 40 °C and 14 cSt at 100 °C, viscosity index 140, pour point -24 °C. Its data sheet lists Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Nakashima Propellers, Holland Roerpropeller (ZF), Sperry Marine, SKF Blohm & Voss, Wärtsilä, Aegir Marine and IHC Sealing Solutions among the equipment makers' specifications and recommendations.
