Manufacturer's description

Mobil Velocite Oil Numbered Series is a range of premium performance, low-viscosity oils primarily designed for the lubrication of high-speed spindles in machine tools. Formulated from select high-quality base oils and additives, they also serve in some critical hydraulic systems, circulation systems and air line oilers when the appropriate viscosity grade is chosen. The oils provide good resistance to oxidation, very good protection against rust and corrosion, strong resistance to foaming, and separate readily from water. The series delivers exceptional lubrication of close-tolerance bearings, helping keep them running cool while maintaining the precision required by critical machine tools. Across the series, typical applications include high-speed spindle bearings, precision grinders, lathes, jig borers and tracer mechanisms; the range is also used in low-pressure hydraulic systems and sensitive instruments such as telescopes and laboratory equipment. It is suited to air line oilers. Mobil Velocite Oil No. 10 is the ISO VG 22 grade of the series, with a viscosity of 22 mm²/s at 40°C and 4.0 mm²/s at 100°C. Typical values: viscosity index 95, flash point 212°C, pour point -30°C, density 0.862 kg/l at 15°C, total acid number 0.1 mg KOH/g. Rust protection is confirmed by ASTM D665 (Procedure A, Pass).

Applications

  • High-speed spindle bearings in machine tools and equipment where high speeds and fine clearances are involved.
  • Precision grinders, lathes, jig borers and tracer mechanisms.
  • Mobil Velocite Oil No. 3 is recommended for 'zero clearance' type spindle bearings, operating with extremely close clearances.
  • For sleeve-type spindle bearings with greater clearances, the choice of viscosity depends on the relation between clearance and spindle speed.
  • Low-pressure hydraulic systems, where the appropriate viscosity is selected.
  • Air-line oilers (Mobil Velocite Oil No. 10).
  • Some sensitive instruments, such as telescopes and laboratory equipment.

Performance & benefits

  • Provide exceptional lubrication of close-tolerance bearings, helping keep the bearings running cool and maintain the precision required by many of today's critical machine tools.
  • Although designed for spindle bearings, exhibit the properties needed to function as low-pressure hydraulic and circulating oils, as long as the proper viscosity is selected.
  • Can help minimize inventory costs and reduce the potential for product misapplication.
  • Effective water separation keeps moisture out of critical lubrication areas.
  • Allows easy removal of moisture from system reservoirs.
