Manufacturer's description

Mobil DTE Oil Heavy Medium is a premium-performance circulating lubricant from the Mobil DTE Oil Named Series, designed for steam and hydro turbine sets and other systems requiring long lubricant service life. Formulated from highly refined base stocks and an additive system, it delivers extremely high chemical and thermal stability, rapid and complete water separation, and high resistance to emulsification, along with excellent protection against rust and corrosion (including salt water) and good anti-wear properties. Its high viscosity index minimizes film-thickness variation with temperature and power loss during warm-up, while excellent air release avoids pump cavitation and erratic operation. It is the ISO VG 68 grade of the series, widely used in land-based and marine steam and hydro turbine circulation systems, including geared turbines, with splash, bath, ring-oiling or other continuous circulation methods. It is recommended for continuous-service lubrication of plain and rolling bearings, parallel-shaft gearing, moderate-severity hydraulic pumps, and rotary/reciprocating compressors and vacuum pumps handling air, natural gas or inert gases with discharge temperatures up to 150°C. Typical values for this grade: viscosity 65.1 mm²/s at 40°C and 8.7 mm²/s at 100°C, viscosity index 100, flash point 223°C, pour point -15°C and turbine oil stability (ASTM D943) of 3500 hours. According to the data sheet it carries ABB Turbo HZTL 90572 and HZTL 90617 approvals and meets or exceeds DIN 51515-1:2010-02 and JIS K-2213 Type 2.

Applications

  • Premium-performance circulating lubricants designed for applications where long lubricant service life is required.
  • Land-based and marine steam turbine, hydro turbine and some gas turbine circulation systems, including pumps, valves and other ancillary equipment.
  • Continuous service in plain and roller bearings and parallel-shaft gearing.
  • Turbines with oil supplied by splash, bath, ring oiling or other mechanical means.
  • Moderate-severity hydraulic pumps.
  • Compressors and vacuum pumps handling air, natural gas and inert gases, with discharge temperatures not exceeding 150°C.

Performance & benefits

  • Very high level of chemical and thermal stability and resistance to sludging and varnishing — long oil charge life in circulation systems and reduced oil replacement costs, less unplanned downtime and reduced maintenance costs.
  • Excellent water-release properties — improved operating efficiency.
  • Very good antiwear protection — longer equipment life, reduced maintenance and downtime.
  • Long-term protection against rust and corrosion — longer equipment life, reduced maintenance and downtime.
  • High resistance to foaming and excellent air release — avoids pump cavitation and noisy, erratic operation.
  • Highly versatile, with multiple applications — rationalises inventory, reducing inventory costs.
