Manufacturer's description

Cat NGEC (Natural Gas Engine Coolant) is a heavy-duty cooling-system fluid, supplied premixed 50/50 with deionized water and embitterment, ready to use with no Supplemental Coolant Additive needed until testing indicates otherwise. It is approved for use in all Cat natural gas and diesel engines, as well as most diesel, gas or natural gas engines from other manufacturers (following OEM recommendations). Cat NGEC protects the cooling system over a temperature range of -34°F (-37°C) to 265°F (129°C) as a 50/50 mix, with additional freeze protection available at a 60% concentration (though higher glycol levels reduce heat-transfer performance). Its inhibitor package provides superior protection for metal components — especially aluminum — against pitting and corrosion, and its formulation minimizes foam. In ASTM D2809 testing with aluminum water pumps, Cat NGEC demonstrated superior protection compared with competitive heavy-duty coolants. When properly maintained with Cat SCA, Cat NGEC has a drain interval of three years (refer to the machine/engine Operation and Maintenance Manual for hour-based intervals). Cat NGEC is formulated to meet or exceed ASTM D3306, D4985, D6210, TMC RP302 and TMC RP329.

Applications

  • Coolant for Cat natural gas and diesel engine cooling systems.
  • Also suitable for most diesel, gas or natural-gas engines made by other manufacturers (follow the OEM's own recommendations).

Performance & benefits

  • Protects the cooling system of the natural-gas engine over a temperature range of -37°C to 129°C (-34°F to 265°F); raising the concentration to 60% increases freeze protection further.
  • Contains inhibitors that provide superior protection against pitting and corrosion for metal components, especially aluminum.
  • Formulated to minimize foam formation.
  • Ready-to-use, premixed with deionized water and embitterment; no Supplemental Coolant Additive is needed until testing indicates otherwise.
  • In ASTM D2809 testing with aluminum water pumps, demonstrated superior protection compared with competitive heavy-duty coolants.
  • With Cat natural-gas engines properly maintained with Cat SCA, the drain interval is three years.
  • Refer to the machine/engine Operation and Maintenance Manual for the interval based on service hours.
